Full debate on budget 2026
Budget 2026 hits British Columbians hard with a $13.3 billion deficit and $500 million in new PST taxes on various professional services. One of these professional services that are to be taxed more is security! Small businesses in Abbotsford are already dealing with crime and disorder. Now this government is forcing them to pay more for their safety?
Furthermore, with this NDP Government’s gross handling of money, interest payments alone are projected to reach $9 billion annually. That’s $24 million every day. By 2028/29 interest alone will cost every British Columbian $1,520.
Additionally, Budget 2026 quietly eliminated the Office of the Merit Commissioner! This independent office ensures public service jobs are awarded based on merit, not political loyalty. It seems to me that the only jobs that this Premier cuts are the ones that hold him accountable.
This NDP budget lacks discipline, credible growth and accountability.
Question Period:
Budget 2026
We know that this NDP Government doesn't believe in letter grades, but the Vancouver Board of Trade does, and it gave this budget a D. So that the NDP understands what a D is in today's standards, it's developing.
The President and CEO of the Vancouver Board of Trade said, "it was the worst grade she's ever seen in her time."
That's a failing grade for a budget that fails British Columbians.
This minister said, "This is not a budget anyone would pop a champagne cork to."
No wonder there's no champagne, no one can afford it. So my question to the Premier is this; will you hold this minister back a full year because of her terrible report card?

Flood Mitigation
Recent flooding that has hit Abbotsford wasn’t a surprise, but rather a warning fulfilled.

Experts, engineers, and local leaders had long raised that alarm. They knew that the Nooksack's overflow north into Canada wasn't a fluke of nature. It was predictable outcome of neglect. It was the result of decades of political paralysis, both in Washington State and here at home in B.C. and Canada.

Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley are not just a dots on a map. These communities are the heart of British Columbia's agriculture sector, and this land is responsible for $3.8 billion in annual activity, 16,000 jobs, and for feeding BC!
